New Book!

My friend got me this book few days ago! It's written by one of my favourite Japanese hand carved stamp artists --- Tsukui Tomoko. It has detailed tutorials and templates to follow! The best part is this is translated into Chinese so I can understand every single thing in this book! The only thing was this book was supposed to come with a free pack of carving tool, ink pad and template. The bookstore said it's not there anymore and this was the only book left....

Rubber Stamp Gifts From My Friends

I can't wait to share these rubber stamps on my blog as these are all rubber stamp gifts from my friends!!

This is the longest rubber stamp I have ever had which I received it from my mailbox yesterday. The packaging is nice and nature scenario is always one of my favourites!

With my new stamp pens, I was able to add many colour onto my rubber stamp!

Apart from this, my friend who sent me this rubber stamp also wrote me a letter with 'Russian Dolls' graphics on the letterhead. Aren't they sweet?

------- (^___^) -------

This sheet stamp is also a gift from another friend of mine who is now living in Japan. The images are very cute! From the instruction on the packaging, I think I will need to get a top for sticking these stamps on it.

Very Japanese style graphics! The cat is very fat!!

This one is silicone stamp. I never have one like this but I will have to find a block to stick these stamps on them so I can stamp them!

This one is very cute. It's a roller. The repeating dog pattern is lovely. Lou and I wanted to get this type of dog - Westie, very cute but very hyper at the same time.

1st Birthday Present for my nephew Ryan

I like very cute illustrations on fabrics. This one is organic cotton which I purchased from a website called Fabric Worm.  They have many kinds of fabrics and patterns for kids and adults. This piece is one of my favourite and I made a cushion for my nephew Ryan for his 1st year birthday present.

I love the polka dot pattern on the back of cushion too~~~ also organic cotton, great for babies!

Rubber Stamp of Myself

There was a night that I wanted to make a rubber stamp of myself very badly, and so I made it~~~

I used a new eraser that I bought it couple of years to carve this image. Very surprisingly, the quality of this eraser was even better than the rubber I bought at art supply stores. The texture was smooth and so very easy to carve.

Sunday Brunch

It's Sunday today and we've invited Lou's parent to come over for brunch. I usually wake up at about 9 on weekends but because I had to make my freshly baked muffins, I had to get off bed a little early this morning~!

Lou always likes my famous "banana chocolate chip muffins' and so this will be one of the dishes I'll be preparing. These muffins have been modified based on an original recipe, like having less sugar, adding oatmeals, flaxseed and some vanilla oil!

I like re-writing recipe, it's always easier to follow!

In addition to the muffins, I also prepared a baked dish - my version of quiche --- with eggs, milk, swiss cheese, ham, green pepper, mushroom, salt and pepper. I baked two bowls of quiches for about 25 minutes (375 degrees) and without any recipe to follow, I was very impressed with the taste and look!!!

Life • Art Tour Exhibition 2013!!!

I mentioned in the last blog that one of my favourite rubber stamp making artists is called Tsukui Tomoko. I found out she had her exhibition in Hong Kong last year. I was very disappointed that I missed that. Then I found out she is visiting Hong Kong again this year for her exhibition!! But this time, it's a tour with other artists too and not only going to Hong Kong but other countries in Asia!! I really wish I can go but because of my health, I can't take the plane to Hong Kong.....

Well, here are info about this Life • Art Tour Exhibition 2013:

My handmade Rubber Stamps

I have not updated my blog in a long time as I have been spending my time making rubber stamps~! I started making them couple weeks ago when I was looking for rubber stamps to buy on the internet and then I came up the idea of making them myself. And at the same time, Kitty showed me her first handmade stamp that she learned from a teacher in Japan. I really admired that she can have the privilege to get taught so professionally but thank God she showed me the steps in her blog and she also gave me one of the Japanese rubber stamp artist names so I got to learn more from her through the internet.
One of the rubber stamp making books she recommended to me was written by Tsukui Tomoko  津久井智子. She is only 32 years old but her work is brilliant already. I was inspired by her works and decided to make my own!!!

These are the tools I use for making rubber stamps
tracing paper • x-acto knife • carving knives • 4B pencil
Very importantly, a rubber pad. I like a thicker pad, it's easier to carve and hold when carving. This is about 1cm thick.
In Toronto, there are not many stores that carry rubber stamp making tools. Versus in Japan, they have plenty, especially for rubber pads, they sell with beautiful packaging and pads in different surface colour. So that when you carve, you can recognize easily the area that need to carve and not carve.

These are found in Japanese website. I'll buy them when I visit Japan next time!!!

I made about 15 rubber stamps in a weekend as I had many images in mind that I couldn't stopped making them all out!

It's Year of Snake so I made greeting cards with this snake stamped on it!

My husband likes the HK style egg tart the most, he can imagine it's very yummy!!

This is the valentine's gift for my husband --- his roaring expression!!!

I love the rabbit rubber stamp a lot~~ it's the first one I made with a background~

I was so glad to receive these 6 packs of rubber stamp pens two days ago!! They are like lipstick so I can easily fill different colour on my stamps!
These are all produced by  津久井智子

Very nice packaging!!

I can never find these colour in Toronto~~~~

Look how tiny it is!! but colour quality is great!

Yesterday, we went downtown to buy some rubber pads. It was snowing and very cold but we made it! I had the idea of making a rubber stamp of our house for the whole week and finally I took a picture of my house exterior right when we got home. I then printed the house out in different sizes as I wasn't sure how tiny I can make.

Then I traced it on tracing paper with my 4B pencil

I then just printed the image on the stamp pad--- scratched it with my finger

Started off with the outer edge of the image

 Then the rooftop

 Windows!!!

At the end, I decided to add some background for this rubber stamp!

With the new stamp pens, I was able to add many colour on the rubber stamp!!!

I have promised my very good friend that I would make a name rubber stamp for her. She likes having small plants in her office and so I added this little plant beside her name.

on tracing paper

My table is so messy compare to Lou's!

The little flower on letter 'i' is very hard to carve, as it's very tiny~~

Done! Hope you'll like it, Vicky!
